If you haven’t heard, the ISO 9001:2008 is undergoing a major renovation. Based on ISO requirements, all ISO standards undergo a review every 5 years and ISO 9001 is getting a facelift. Well… something more than a facelift. More on that in coming weeks.

But, this isn’t new to us. Core Business Solutions has marked the past 2 revisions of ISO 9001 with milestones of our own:

In 2000, we launched the company to help small companies get the most value from the new “process approach” introduced in the ISO 9001:2000 standard.

In 2006, we launched www.9000world.com in anticipation of the upcoming ISO 9001:2008 standard (the current version).

Now, in 2013 we’re getting ready for the ISO 9001:2015 release with a completely new website: www.thecoresolution.com. Like the writers of the ISO standard, we’ve taken a fresh look at the needs of small companies who need to achieve, maintain and get the most out of ISO 9001 certification. If I can summarize the new idea for the new site:

“ISO certification should make a difference to your customers.”

We say this not just because ISO certification allows you to check a box on a customer qualification form, but because ISO should represent more than that. Sure, ISO 9001 means you’ve satisfied an auditor. Over 1.2 million companies worldwide can say that. But, especially in small companies, there is no spare time or budget available for any effort that doesn’t help set you apart in the eyes of your customers. If most of your competitors are already ISO certified, how does that set you apart?

That’s the fundamental question we are addressing with our new website and the small business support programs you’ll read about here. For 14 years now, we’ve helped hundreds of companies achieve ISO 9001 certification. Getting certified is the easy part. Most of our small business customers come to us with the need to get certified and our 4-month, 16-week consulting programs do just that at prices that fit a small business budget.

But more than that, our customers are learning how to turn ISO 9001 into a competitive advantage through better performance for their customers. That means that ISO can’t simply be a check-the-box exercise. It must be more than that. It must be a tool for taking a small business to the next level. We believe ISO must provide a roadmap for delivering markedly higher quality of products and services that is noticed by our customers’ customers.

Sure, the update in 2015 will teach us some new things. But, right now small businesses are using their ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems and corresponding ISO certification to make a difference for their customers. At the CORE of ISO 9001 (sorry for the pun) is this very idea and the opportunity for you to make a difference for your customers. We encourage you to learn more about how to make this happen in your company whether you’re already ISO certified and your QMS has simply become something to show your auditor once a year, or you aren’t yet certified and need to get it done.

Peruse this site and feel free to give us a call. We’re passionate about helping you make a difference for your customers through ISO certification and the improved performance that should follow. There’s no need to wait for 2015. Grab some coffee and give us a call. We’d be glad to discuss how this can happen in your company now.
